Our reactions and decisions are based on mental habits we developed over the years by being exposed to our social environment and challenging events in our lives. In this short article, I will concentrate on dealing with negative habits that hold us back from living a happy and successful life. Such as low self-esteem, OCD, emotional eating, temper, social anxiety, procrastination, inability to reach goals and alike.
The bad news is the fact that old destructive habits die hard, yet the good news is that they can be changed and replaced by empowering habits. The major catalyst responsible for our ability to reprogram ourselves is our capability and discipline to utilize our innate, always-on mechanism, called: The Power of Awareness.
Self-awareness is our innate gift to pause and self-correct our responses to any event/dilemma in our daily lives. All it takes is that when you are faced with a situation that stirs up inner discomfort, take a moment, and before reacting, ask yourself: “Is my response to this situation based on facts OR is it based on my habitual thinking?
If you have a lion chasing you, well, responding by running away, is based on facts. Yet, when you don’t think you are able of do well in college because your teacher in high school did not think much of you, and by saying so s/he caused you to develop a habit of self-doubt, well my friend, that is based on your habitual thinking.
Utilizing our power of awareness as a thought validation CHECKPOINT and having the courage to fearlessly act accordingly, plays a major role in our ability to eliminate negative habits and form new positive habits, which are essential for unlocking our potential to have an amazing future.
